Fumbo: Names, Traditions and Meanings

I am very proud to present Fumbo, Amani Creatives CIC’s new exhibition exploring the heritage of African names in Greater Manchester and the Northwest of England. It runs at Manchester Central Library, 2–31 October 2025, with a launch event on 2nd October (3–7pm).

At 5.30pm, I will give a guided tour of the exhibition, sharing stories behind the photographs and the cultural traditions they reflect.

This project means a lot to me. In 2023, I curated an Amani exhibition in Kinshasa, DR Congo, about traditional Congolese cultural practices in the UK. Fumbo continues this journey—shining a light on how African heritage lives and grows here in the Northwest.

As part of Fumbo, we are also introducing my children’s book, Ndjoku: A Name with a Story. It will be read during the launch, and Amani is donating limited copies to schools and children’s programmes. Anyone interested can email amaniplatnet@gmail.com.

Groups who would like a private guided tour of the exhibition can also get in touch. I will be offering tours once a week (Saturdays preferred) until the exhibition closes at the end of October.

I am very proud of this project and can’t wait to share it with you. Please join us in celebrating the names, traditions, and stories that shape who we are.

Thank you.
